Writing Tools

Don’t let anyone tell you different- writing is easy.  Go ahead, sit down at a computer and tap away.  Or get a pen and paper.  Hell, find some mud and a stick and start scraping lines.  Nothing simpler.  Writing, like most art, is easy enough to do.  It’s getting paid to do it that’s tough.

Tough and frustrating.  It’s a stupid idea, really.  Invest a lot of time and effort into making something, and then go out and try to find someone who will pay you for it.  That’s not how most jobs are done.  Usually you get a contract that tells you what your compensation for your work will be before you do it, not after.  If at all.  So let’s just agree that trying to get paid for writing is a dumb idea, and then do it anyway.

This page is about trying to get paid.  I haven’t been doing this nearly enough to claim any real expertise.  But being a librarian by training, I know that’s not really the point.  As long as I can point you toward the experts, I can be a little helpful.  The following is a collection of advice and links that I’ve managed to collect that might be useful in getting that Holy Grail.  An acceptance letter, one free sample copy and a check that just might be big enough to cover the cost of the printer ink your story used.

This page is going to be a work-in-progress for awhile
